Marks, Symbols, Signs 2015—17

<p>Marks, Symbols, Signs gathers the marks designed by Mimmo Manes between 2015 and 2017. Twenty-four marks for different clients and occasions, presented together, white on black, each with its name and its year.</p><p>The collection opens with the words of Antonio Boggeri as recounted by Bruno Monguzzi. Swiss graphic design is perfect, but often with a useless perfection. The spider's web becomes useful when it catches the fly. Every mark in the collection comes out of that criterion. Sense first, then form. A mark works when it says something about the subject it stands for, not when it is merely well drawn.</p><p>There are monograms that fuse letters into a single mark, abstract symbols built on elementary geometry, typographic marks for addresses and places. Cut to the bone, made to last.</p>
