How do you give a digital home to a European university that has not one campus but nine? The EC2U Alliance brings together nine universities in nine countries, from Poitiers to Coimbra, from Salamanca to Pavia, and on to Jena, Iași, Linz, Turku and Umeå, along with over sixty local partners. In 2025 Dinamo designed and developed the Alliance's new web platform, conceived as a meeting point between institutional communication, collaboration between universities and the dissemination of the project's results. The starting point is a distributed identity: many universities, languages and cultures that have to recognise themselves in a single digital space, without losing what makes them distinct. The work moves between coherence and openness, building a unified environment able to hold different voices and different content.

EC2U is an alliance of European universities funded by the European Union. Its aim is to build a model of university life that is inclusive, collaborative and sustainable, shared between universities and cities.
An undertaking on this scale calls for a digital space that works as a common point of reference for academic and civic communities spread across Europe. The platform exists for this: to give the Alliance a single hub for communicating, coordinating and showing the results of its work.
Information architecture and content design
We redesigned the site starting from its structure. The new information architecture organises the complexity of the project around its audiences and its activities. Content design turned texts and structures into an accessible account of missions, work packages and opportunities.
Entry to the content runs through four perspectives, students, researchers, staff and citizens, so that each finds their own path inside the same platform.
Migration and interoperability
A central phase covered the migration of content from the old WordPress site to the new headless Drupal system, with continuity guaranteed. The headless architecture separates content management from presentation, a choice that opens the way to integration with the Alliance's other digital tools. At the same time the infrastructure makes it simpler for the universities to update content, working on a shared system.
